The Prophet’s ﷺ Marriage to Aisha

Asalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Bismillah, wasallatu wa salamu ‘ala rasulillah. The Prophet’s ﷺ marriage to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was signed when she was 6 years of age. The marriage was consummated when she was 9 years of age.

Kuffar, often times Christians and atheists, use this to say that the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him was a pedophile.

This blog post will Insha’Allah be a refutation of those who say the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him is a pedophile for marrying Aisha. (Hashah)

We can refute this accusation very easily:

1. THE FALLACY OF PRESENTISM

You are judging something from 1400 years ago using principles of today. A 9 year old today is not a 9 year old at the time of the Prophet ﷺ. This is for many reasons one of them being a rapid aging due to hot climate and stress.

2. THE PROPHET’S MOTIVATION

One of the reasons the Prophet ﷺ considered marrying Aisha goes back to his interest in spreading his Sunnah. It’s easy to know what the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him did with his companions outside home, thanks to the many transmissions by said companions but not as easy to know how he acted at home. This is a reason why the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him married as many wives as he did. He married Aisha to assure that there would be be someone to pass down his Sunnah at home after his death. As well as that, a reason for this marriage was the establishing of ties of kinship between himself and his companion; Abu Bakr As-Siddiq.

3. AISHA NEVER SHOWED ANY SIGN OF TRAUMA

She expresses quite the contrary actually. Nothing but love and admiration for the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him. Ignorant Non-Muslims often try to paint Aisha as a victim, with the people around her forcing her into this marriage, when she was happy about it. As such, she didn’t even consider herself to be a victim, so how can you consider her to be one?

4. THE COMMON INTEREST ARABS HAD IN MARRYING YOUNG

At the time of the Prophet ﷺ, the life expectancy was low (barely reaching the 50’s). Considering this, Arabs would choose to marry young.
